We're back in those dog days of summer. Things are moving a little slower, minds clouded with humidity. The days are particularly doggie for me since I'm back again with my main squeeze and band mascot, Joni Dog Mitchell. Besides a frenzied few minutes while we tried (and failed) to clip her nails today, our reunion has been dreamy.
My other main squeeze, Jenner Man Fox, is back on a river somewhere, while I sweat out the rest of the summer on my ancestral shores of eastern Long Island. We parted midway through that incredible trip on the Chilko River withROAM Adventures, my first ever rafting trip. (Our goodbye was planned; I didn't fall out.) We jumped into mountaintop glacial lakes, shared some tunes while actually floating down the river, and explored our floral selves (see above.) Before I left I expressed to J how grateful I am for the ways I've been challenged and encouraged out of my comfort zone over our last couple years in partnership. He returned the sentiment. Love that guy.
We can only hope that we'll continue to challenge each other when we get to work again come fall. September and October are looking to be pleasantly stuffed with gigs, (see below) and we're on the hunt for producers and musicians with whom to collaborate on some new recordings in November. But if you can''t wait that long to hear Odell Fox tracks that you haven't heard before, you're in luck...
Back when we recorded the "Moon Shiner EP" with Cookie Marenco of Blue Coast Records, we also laid down some live takes of our favorite covers, as well as a solo version of Jenner's stunning song, "Broken." Cookie recently released those tracks, in addition to the original EP, on the Blue Coast website in her signature high quality format. She is a rare gem and has been amazingly generous to the band, and we'd love for you to check it out.

Odell Fox Recommends:
Beechlord: Our own dear Jenner teamed up with his longtime homeboy and collaborator, musical whizkid Shawn Barry, on an ambient, alternative, audacious EP, "The Birds." If you're a fan of ours, there's a very good chance you'll dig it. If you're a fan of birds, you may dig it even more.
Frank Stanford: An anthology of this poet's work has been a car seat companion of ours since I visited the small publishing house where it was put out, in Port Townsend, WA. I find the pace of his verse so exciting, his words and themes so evocatively American. He's rock and roll. I think some songs will come out of that book, somehow.
Deleting the Facebook App: Honestly, a good idea since day one. But especially in this election cycle. Scrolling has never felt so toxic. Yikes.
Our video postscript this month is of one of our very favorite songs to sing, the message of which has never felt more true. It was shot and conceived by friends and fellow ROAMers Jim Ramsay and Kevin Hegel. Enjoy!
Buckets of rain, buckets of love,
Raph (& Jenner)
